Field of Grass with Sky
This Project was designed for artists of all
ages as an introduction to pastels Skills taught
here include but are not limited to blending a
sky, making different strokes, learning to vary
the pressure when applying stokes, blending
by overlapping strokes of different colors. I
have used this project for one day visits and
with kids as young as in kindergarten.
Working with a Photo Resource
This is typically how I work. I show the students
how I would start a pastel painting. I talk about
composition, proportion in laying out your pastel,
blocking in or sketching in your subject, analyzing
your reference to show what most interests you. I
try to keep my demonstrations and such to a
minimum so that I can move around and help
students with questions, giving personalized one
on one help where needed.
